Job Description

Major, Lindsey & Africa’s Interim Legal Talent group is seeking an interim Land Acquisition Associate to support a client’s expanding land development and transactional operations team, with the goal of becoming permanent based on performance.

Overview: Our client is seeking a highly capable professional with strong legal‑adjacent or attorney‑level analytical skills to support a broad range of land acquisition and property‑related transactional activities. The role begins with substantial coordination and workflow support for senior members of the land team, with the expectation of progression into more sophisticated acquisition responsibilities over time. Key functions include assisting with property evaluations, preparing and reviewing transactional materials, conducting ownership and land research, coordinating due‑diligence activities, managing timelines, and supporting closing processes. The position also requires maintaining organized records, updating acquisition databases, and facilitating communication across legal, land, and technical stakeholders.

The preferred candidate will have experience working on matters involving real estate, land use, or transactional workflows and should be comfortable managing multiple concurrent files in a fast‑moving environment. Individuals with strong analytical skills, experience reviewing property‑related documentation, and the ability to navigate complex project workflows will be particularly well‑suited to this role.

Company: Land development / environmental restoration–focused organization

Experience: 4+ years preferred; broader experience ranges may also be considered

Location: Hybrid schedule available within the regional office in the DC Metro area; onsite presence required several days per week.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Support property sourcing and acquisition processes, including preparing outreach materials, drafting and formatting transactional documents, and assisting with early‑stage evaluations.
  • Conduct ownership and property research, compile prospect profiles, verify land records, and support outreach efforts under team direction.
  • Participate in communication with property owners, industry contacts, and external stakeholders as part of early acquisition engagement.
  • Identify new land opportunities and help expand the network of brokers, developers, community partners, and other relevant professionals.
  • Assist with due‑diligence coordination by ordering title commitments, gathering site information, and supporting cross‑functional property reviews.
  • Track feasibility and diligence deadlines, maintain project timelines, and participate in regular status meetings to review action items.
  • Support closing processes by preparing checklists, assembling closing materials, ensuring document accuracy, and coordinating with internal and external parties.
  • Maintain and update acquisition databases, track project statuses, and manage document workflows consistent with organizational standards.
  • Facilitate internal approval processes and maintain organized acquisition files in accordance with established document‑management procedures.

Qualifications Include:

  • 4+ years of experience in real estate, land acquisition, legal, or transactional roles; attorney‑level analytical or document‑review experience strongly valued
  • Strong ability to interpret property‑related documents including agreements, title materials, easements, and reports.
  • Experience supporting or coordinating real estate transactions, diligence reviews, or closings.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple ongoing matters and shifting priorities.
  • High proficiency with Adobe, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Teams, and database or document‑management platforms.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with consistent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated initiative, reliability, and comfort contributing to both administrative and advanced acquisition workstreams.
